Mauthausen Concentration Camp Guided Tour
On this excursion to the Mauthausen concentration camp, we'll explore and uncover the fateful events that took place behind the walls of one of the largest labor camps of the Third Reich.
Mauthausen Concentration Camp Guided Tour
At 8:30 am we'll meet at Albertinaplatz and set off from Vienna for this day trip to the Mauthausen concentration camp.
Along the way, we'll let you in on different facts about one of the largest labor camps of the Third Reich. Between 1938 and 1945, some 200,000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned here. And sadly, about half of them lost their lives. Today, Mauthausen stands as a reminder of the darkest days of Austria's history.
After a two-hour drive, we'll enter Upper Austria and enter Mauthausen, where we'll give you an audio guide in English with which you can learn about all the rooms in the place. During the tour, you'll not only listen to the historical context but also what life was like in the Mauthausen concentration camp before its liberation in May 1945.
You'll walk at your own pace through facilities such as the training yard, the barracks, the kitchen, the Wiener-Graben quarry, the Death Stairs, the SS quarters, and the gas chamber.
On the way back to Vienna, we'll stop at a restaurant so that you may get some lunch. Finally, we'll conclude the tour back at the meeting point eight and a half hours after the start of the tour.
